We are two authorized psychologists, Jonas Sandberg and Martin Blendstrup Malmström, working at the NORDIM clinics in Stockholm and Oslo. We have many years of experience in the field of clinical psychology in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Over the years we have developed our own methodology. Tailoring the therapy to the needs and wishes of our clients we work with the following methods, either exclusively or in combination:

COGNITIVELY ORIENTED TALKS

We start with a discussion about the problems to be solved. During these talks we as therapists can get an idea of who you are and how you try to solve your problems with the knowledge and experience you have.

Cognitively oriented talks aim at helping you change your way of thinking about the problems you confront. By doing that you can learn to handle them in new and more constructive ways. At the same time you can get rid of earlier limitations and obstacles to the attainment of your goals. If the problems did not arise too long ago and if they are not too profound and complex, cognitively oriented talks may be sufficient.

MENTAL TRAINING

If it is not sufficient to "build you up" on a conscious level by means of cognitively oriented talks, you can go further and by means of mental training do it also on a deeper, non-conscious level.

Mental training has been mainly known in the context of sports. Most sportswomen and -men today practice systematic and regular mental training in order to attain better results. However, mental training can be useful for all people and help them feel and function better.

We live in a changing world where rapid technical progress gives us increased freedom but at the same time makes new and heavier demands on us. In addition to being able to use the new technology we need a capacity to choose and focus on information which is important for us and at the same time screen out a major part of the continuous information flow, which we actually do not need and which sometimes even prevents us from reaching our goals. To be able to manage this and other matters of importance for our wellbeing we have to work actively and consciously to improve our mental capacities - just as our sportswomen and -men do.

Mental training helps you feel and function better generally, i.e. in all situations and contexts. It can also help you handle different kinds of demanding situations, both private and professional. You might need to learn to cope constructively with a critical situation in your private life or you may face the task at your workplace of giving a lecture to a large crowd of people or leading or finishing a project under time pressure.

By means of mental training you can improve mental capacities such as:

By so doing you create the necessary conditions for entering into a hypnotic state. In this state you can come into closer contact with your non-conscious mind, and an increased co-operation is established between the conscious and the non-conscious part of yourself. This opens the door for many new possibilities.

The non-conscious part of us consists, simply speaking, of two parts:

  1. a store of experience and knowledge
  2. an intelligence

Most of the experiences and knowledge we have gathered in life are stored in the non-conscious part of ourselves. It also stores material we for different reasons have been forced to repress or exclude from consciousness to be able to function. This is more easily accessible to you in the hypnotic state, when co-operation is established between the conscious and the non-conscious part of you.

Deep within us we possess an intelligence with the capacity to activate and handle this knowledge and these experiences and translate them into action. It controls our habitual thoughts, feelings and acts. However, it also has the power to help us solve problems which require working through experiences stored on a non-conscious level. In this way we can reach even deeper layers in our non-conscious mind and get into stronger contact with our inner resources such as peace, strength and joy.

HYPNOSIS

Speaking about hypnosis we can refer to two different things:

Hypnosis is a method whereby you can enter a so-called hypnotic state. One of the differences between hypnosis as a method and mental training is that, using the former, we therapists (in co-operation with your non-conscious part) steer you into the hypnotic state and through the following process, while in mental training you yourself to the best of your ability try to do the same.

If experiences which have not been worked through do not prevent you from reaching a deeper level of the non-conscious part of yourself, you become open to positive suggestions from your hypnotist. Through the hypnotic work these suggestions reach deeper and deeper into your non-conscious mind and are stored there. The deeper the information is stored in your non-conscious mind the stronger is its effect e.g. on your self-image and your behaviour.

Gradually you learn to put yourself into a hypnotic state (self-hypnosis) and in a similar way give yourself suggestions which influence you positively on a deeper level.

All people can enter hypnotic states but it takes more or less time for them to learn that. We enter these states when our conscious thinking activity is resting. For instance, when we are on our way to sleep or to wake up we pass through a hypnotic phase but usually without reflecting on it. These states are also called alternate states of consciousness, when we are conscious but experience ourselves and our surroundings in a different way.

Few people are able on their own to learn to enter hypnotic states often enough and to stay there long enough as required for an optimal use of their potential. Therefore, self-hypnosis often has to be preceded by hypnosis. When we get the help needed we learn to get into touch with our deep non-conscious levels and the inner peace and security residing here, which makes us experience ourselves and everything around us in a very positive way.

It may be sufficient to work with cognitively oriented talks in combination with mental training, hypnosis and possibly self-hypnosis to reach our goals, provided we do not have traumatic experiences or other rather deep-seated problems which originate farther back in time. By those means we become mentally strong enough both on a conscious and a non-conscious level to confront, work through and get rid of problems we encounter in life, such as:

HYPNOTHERAPY

Some of us have problems which have lasted a longer time and have roots reaching down to a deeper non-conscious level. It may be traumatic experiences which have been wholly or partly repressed, i.e. they have been stored in an inaccessible part of our non-conscious mind in order to prevent undue strain.

When you by means of cognitively oriented talks and hypnosis have built yourself up sufficiently from the ground, the following happens:

Parts of experiences which have not been worked through and need being worked through consciously become conscious. At the same time most of these experiences are worked through on a non-conscious level.

When experiences which have not been worked through begin to enter consciousness, it may be necessary to go on with what we could call the hypnotherapeutic phase to make the problems disappear completely. If this is the case, you need to consult a psychologist skilled in hypnosis who has training and experience in guiding people through this phase.

There is, of course, a reason why you need such a psychologist at your side. It is too demanding for you to steer the process you are undergoing when at the same time you need to learn to cope with the experiences you confront in a new, rational and constructive way.

When in hypnotherapy you work through more or less traumatic experiences, the process consists of two different parts:

  1. reconstruction, i.e. a re-experiencing of experiences not worked through and
  2. re-organization or reprogramming of these.

Even though you succeed in entering the hypnotic state on your own it might be difficult to continue without professional help, if it turns out that experiences you have not worked through are spontaneously reconstructed, i.e. brought up to consciousness. To be prepared to face these you need to have somebody at your side whose personality, knowledge and experience in the field gives you the support and security needed.

The non-conscious part of yourself controls the time and extent of reconstruction or re-experiencing necessary for working through your experiences completely.

Reconstruction is followed by a re-organization or re-programming, which means that situations earlier experienced as threatening and frightening or in other ways unsatisfactory will now be experienced in a new way which makes them more manageable. Thus gaining control over your way of experiencing what has happened gives you more trust in your power to influence and a more positive self-image.

Working through the hypnotherapeutic phase can radically change your behaviour patterns and, as a result, you will feel much better and function in a more constructive way.

BOOKING Of INDIVIDUAL THERAPY (HYPNOSIS ETC.)

We psychologists working at the NORDIM clinics are not specialized in a particular set of problems. Instead we aim at helping people who are interested in the methods we have developed and use and who believe they will have success working with themselves by means of these, namely cognitively oriented talks, mental training, hypnosis and hypnotherapy in a combination and to an extent needed in order to make problems/limitations disappear. We adjust our methods to individual needs.

Since there is a great interest in working with oneself by means of our methods, we have limited possibilities to help all those who phone or write us. However, by booking time for individual hypnosis online on our home page www.nordim.net you do not have to wait for us to phone. Please note that until further notice you can only book time electronically to our clinic in Oslo.

When you mail or phone us give your name, telephone number and address. If you have email which you want us to use, please give that address, too.

In a week you will receive a mail or a letter with a client number (username) and a personal booking/cancellation code (password) which you can use when you book or cancel apointments with us. When you use these and not your name and address your identity is protected.

If you do not have the use of Internet or if you do not like to book time electronically, you are, of course, welcome to phone us. However, in that case you might have to wait some time for us to call.

You are welcome to book for one or maximum three individual sessions (hypnosis etc.) when you have read and approved the following conditions for booking, payment and cancellation.

When you make your first appointment for individual therapy (hypnosis etc.) you must bind yourself to two hours and 15 minutes (3 × 45 minutes) in order to give us time to get to know each other, go through the problems you need help to solve and to have the first therapeutic session (hypnosis etc.). Our fee for individual therapy is 680 NOK /45 min.

One therapeutic session might be enough, but usually several are needed. Yet it will cost you most in time and money in the starting phase. As a rule, we plan intensive short-time therapies.

You pay cash directly to your psychologist. If you want to use a credit card it is also possible.

If you want to cancel an appointment, this has to be done seven days before the time appointed. Otherwise you have to pay for it, unless you fall ill and can present a doctor´s certificate.

When you have to cancel an individual session (hypnosis etc.) you use the booking/cancellation code (password) you receive at the same time as your client number (username).

BOOKING OF COURSE AND WORKSHOPS

Even though waiting time for individual therapy is shortened when you book time on our home page, you may think that you need to wait too long for help. Therefore, we have chosen to start courses in weight loss, smoking cessation and alcohol/hash cessation at our clinic in Sandvika (Oslo).

Each session lasts for two hours and 15 minutes and the course extends over three Mondays. The maximum number of participants is 10 persons. The cost which is 5 000 NOK is paid in full not later than three weeks before the course starts. Course leaders are psychologists Jonas Sandberg and Martin Malmström.

The fee includes a compendium about mental training, hypnosis and self-hypnosis written by us. In addition, you get three CDs which we have recorded, one with information about mental training, hypnosis and self-hypnosis and two with exercises in mental training and self-hypnosis. Both compendium and CDs are available in Norwegian, Swedish and English. These will enable you to work on your own between course sessions and after completion of the course.

You can profitably learn mental training in a group, since it contains many elements which are similar for all, provided that the problems you want help to solve are not too extensive and complex.

As has been seen, mental training and self-hypnosis often need to be complemented with individual hypnosis after completion of a course. So we guarantee those who have participated in our courses a first session at the latest two weeks after completion of the course. Participation in a course reduces the time it will take to be treated individually.

In addition to these courses we also offer three days´ WORKSHOPS (Saturday-Monday) in mental training, hypnosis and self-hypnosis at a small course centre. The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 15 persons. The cost is 10 000 NOK to be paid in full not later than four weeks before start. Costs for board and lodging are not included. Course leaders are psychologists Jonas Sandberg and Martin Malmström. This fee also includes a compendium and three CDs.

You will also have the opportunity to book complementary individual therapy sessions (hypnosis etc.) during your stay at the course centre.

Companies, organizations, and others who wish to book their own courses or workshops are welcome to write or phone us for a discussion about specially designed variants of these.

As mentioned, the cost of our courses in weight loss, smoking cessation, and alcohol/hash cessation is 5 000 NOK and the cost of our workshops 10 000 NOK. The cost includes a compendium and three CDs with information about mental training, hypnosis and self-hypnosis and exercises in mental training and self-hypnosis. You are registered when you have paid half the fee, i.e. 2 500 NOK and 5 000 NOK respectively, into NORDIM´s account number 6011.06.29446 in Nordea Norway.

Registration for our courses and workshops is binding when you have paid half of the total sum and can only be repaid in case you fall ill and can present a doctor´s certificate.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE ROUTE

Our clinic in Oslo has a central location in Aamodtgården 18, Rådman Halmrasts vei, close to the railway and bus station in Sandvika, about 10-15 minutes´ travel by train or car south-west of Oslo S. If you click Sandvika you will find Rådman Halmrasts vei.

Our clinic in Stockholm is situated in Enskede 10-15 minutes by train or car from Stockhom C. If you click Enskede and then the mark in the centre of the map you will find Skördevägen.
